Doing Business in Panama
Panama as a business platform
Panama’s location and maritime and air connectivity provide a base for trade, logistics and regional services. When evaluating an investment, businesses should consider their target market, operating structure, staffing needs and compliance costs from the outset.
Define the structure and activity
The first step is to establish which activities will take place in Panama, who the customers will be and how the operation will interact with the wider group. This information supports an assessment of structure options, relevant registrations and permits, and accounting and tax matters. Legal formalities require the involvement of appropriately qualified professionals.
Assess special regimes
Panama offers regimes such as Panama Pacifico and Multinational Company Headquarters (SEM). Their suitability depends on permitted activities, entry requirements and ongoing obligations. Incorporating a company or obtaining an address alone does not secure incentives: the regime’s conditions and the actual operations must be assessed.
